An attempt at capturing the clouds on Venus & Mars

by on , under Astronomy

Using my monochrome webcam I tried to capture some of the cloud detail on Venus.

I used a purple filter and a UV/IR cut-off filter. I tried various exposures and settings, but no joy.

Oh well, at least I got a reasonable image of Venus showing a thick crescent phase.

I also had a go at Mars in colour as well while I was at it.

Maybe it’s now time to upgrade from the humble webcam?

Hey, instead of using the UV/IR cut, use a blue filter along with a *47 Violet filter. . Venus clouds will appear if you let the UV in. If you cut the UV off, the clouds won’t show. The monochrome webcam should be fine for this purpose :) I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a shot. Any particular blue filter, or would a blue filter from an RGB set do?
